A Search for Epic Landscapes, Corse 2017
As usual around this time of the year I'll had out on a search for epic landscapes. This time the search brings my better half and me to Corse. An island of France in the Mediterranean sea. We spend three days in Porto Ota on the west side of the island. Porto Ota is a beautiful little harbor town. The view from our hotel room balcony was breath taking. Interesting tip: rent a small motorboat and explore te rocks and caves, "calanches de Piana" in the cliffs by the sea or the Scandola reserve on the other side of the Porto bay that was placed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1983. After Porto Ota we drove inland into the mountains to a little town called Lozzi and rented a cabin with a view on the highest mountain of Corse, Monte Cinto, 2706 mtr high. The landscape here was rather dry ans desolate. Not really my idea of a breath taking view... but beautiful non the less. We ended the trip with two days in Bonifacio on the far south side of Corse. The historic town of Bonifacio is build on a massive overhanging rock 80 mtr above sea level and is a attraction for photographers. The small and cosy streets packed with shops and restaurants are a delight to stroll trough.
Not Everything you Shoot has to be Portfolio Worthy
I mean it! Not everything you shoot has to be portfolio worthy. Sometimes it's perfectly OK to go out in the middle of the day, go hiking, explore some unknown trails and shoot some images. It's good practice and relaxing! it's not going to be your best work but who cares, right!? IT's just good fun!

Practice!
Zondag morgen... Wekker gaat af om 4u... Tijd om wat te oefenen. Ik trek vlak bij mijn thuis de velden in om een compositie te gaan zoeken op een plaats waar ik sinds 10 jaar minstens een maal per week langs kom, maar tot op vandaag er nog niet in geslaagd ben om een degelijke foto te maken. Misschien lukt het vandaag wel.
Reschensee (IT) Shoot.
Tijdens onze jaarlijkse gezinsvakantie in Oostenrijk trek ik 's morgens vroeg richting Italie om er de beroemde klokkentoren Graun te gaan fotograferen.
Gambling on Weather.
Achter de schermen blik op de shoot in Mettekoven. Dit was een beetje een gok, een gok op het weer. Het had de hele dag geregend maar het weerbericht voorspelde opklaringen tegen het einde van de dag. Eerder die dag vond ik, toevallig, een veld in Mettekoven waar de strobalen nog op het veld lagen. Dat leek me wel de moeite...

Tijdens het laatste weekend van Mei gingen we met het gezin naar zee. Zondag morgen ben ik om 4u uit mijn nest geklommen om te gaan fotograferen bij zonsopgang.v

Op de eerste dag van de lente trok ik er weer op uit voor landschapsfotografie. Kijk en volg me naar Eigenbilzen, Limburg waar ik een kapelletje vond te midden van de velden.

Ken je dat? Je gaat de deur uit om landschap te gaan fotograferen maar wanneer je op je locatie aankomt slaat het weer helemaal om? Ik moest en zou iets fotograferen... Dan gaan we toch improviseren!
Lugano 2016
Blijkbaar werd ik 42 op 11 December. Afgelopen weekend dus. Ik ben zo’n twintig jaar gelden gestopt met het bij te houden. Maar mijn fantastische wederhelft was het niet vergeten en deed me een weekendje Lugano cadeau. Een vlucht heen en terug Brussel - Milaan. Een Fiat 500 als huur wagen en twee nachten in het Swiss Diamond Hotel In Lugano, Zwitserland met uitzicht op het meer van Lugano en dus twee zonsondergangen om te fotograferen in de bergen, Ronduit Zalig!!!
A Search For Epic Landscapes Norway.
Zoals gewoonlijk in September plannen we een fototrip ergens in de bergen. Vorige jaren gingen we al naar de Alpen in Frankrijk en twee maal in Zwitserland. Dit jaar ging de reis naar Noorwegen. Eindelijk! Noorwegen staat al een hele tijd bovenaan in mijn lijstje en nu kon ik het eindelijk afvinken. We mochten de mobilehome lenen van Georges, de vader van Ben. Fantastisch, want op die mannier geraken we niet alleen daar maar hebben we ook nog eens een luxe verblijfplaats (in vergelijking met een tentje) óp al onze locaties in Noorwegen.
Jammer genoeg verliep de trip niet helemaal volgens plan en hielden we uiteindelijk twee avonden over om te kunnen fotograferen.

The "Bachalpsee" trip. Switzerland, September 2015.
At the end of september I continued my search for epic landscapes. This year in Grindelwald Switzerland. The Bachalpsee in the Grindelwald mountains at over 2000mtr high with the Wetterhorn in the background. It took us 3 trips up the mountain to get this photograph, it kept hiding itself in mist and clouds. We got lucky at the third attempt.
Make sure you watch the video till the end, if nothing else, the drone footage at the end of the video makes it worth it!
